The sea builds in spirals.vThis shell knows that. Spiral after spiral, growing outward from a single point at the centre. It spent years on the seafloor, adding one layer at a time, unhurried. Every ridge on its surface is time made visible. I wanted to carry that with me. So I made a cast directly from this shell, then pressed fine silver clay into that cast. After firing, the binder burns away completely and the silver particles fuse into solid fine silver. Every ridge, every ring, every year the sea recorded, now held in 99.9% pure silver forever. The shell still exists, exactly as I found it. Its memory now lives in silver too.
Fine silver is heavy for its size. You will feel it against your skin. It warms with your body. This is a piece that moves with you through the day, quietly present. The silver is 99.9% recycled. Nothing new is mined. Nothing is wasted.
It carries the EWN hallmark and my maker’s mark: the official mark of the Edelmetaal Waarborg Nederland. Real. Certified. Permanent.

De zee bouwt in cirkels. Deze schelp weet dat. Spiraal na spiraal, groeiend naar buiten vanuit een punt in het midden. Hij bracht jaren op de zeebodem door, laag voor laag, ongehaast. Elke ribbel op zijn oppervlak is tijd die zichtbaar is geworden. Ik wilde dat bij me dragen. Dus maakte ik een afdruk direct van deze schelp en drukte zilverklei daarin. Na het bakken brandt het bindmiddel volledig weg en smelten de zilverdeeltjes samen tot massief fijn zilver. Elke ribbel, elke ring, elk jaar dat de zee vastlegde, nu voor altijd vastgehouden in 99,9% puur zilver. De schelp bestaat nog, precies zoals ik hem vond. Zijn herinnering leeft nu ook in zilver.
Fijn zilver is zwaar voor zijn formaat. Je voelt het op je huid. Het warmt op met je lichaam. Dit is een stuk dat de dag met je meegaat, stil aanwezig. Het zilver is 99,9% gerecycled. Er wordt niets nieuws gedolven. Er gaat niets verloren. Hij draagt het EWN-keurteken en mijn meesterteken: het officiële keur van de Edelmetaal Waarborg Nederland. Echt. Gecertificeerd. Permanent.
