The sea builds in spirals. These do too. Two shells, each cast separately in fine silver. Both carry the same pattern: spiral after spiral, growing outward from a single raised point at the centre. Every ridge the sea pressed into the original shell is now pressed into silver, on both sides of your face.
I made a cast directly from the shell, then pressed fine silver clay into it. Twice. After firing, the binder burns away completely and the silver particles fuse into solid fine silver. The sterling silver hooks pass directly through each shell. Nothing between the silver and your skin but the piece itself.
Fine silver catches light differently than other metals. It has a softness to it, a warmth. Against skin, it glows. The shells still exist, exactly as I found them. Their memory now hangs from your ears.
The silver is 99.9% recycled. Nothing new is mined. Nothing is wasted. Each piece carries the EWN hallmark and my maker’s mark: the official mark of the Edelmetaal Waarborg Nederland. Real. Certified. Permanent.

Beide dragen hetzelfde patroon: spiraal na spiraal, groeiend naar buiten vanuit een enkel punt in het midden. Elke ribbel die de zee in de originele schelp heeft gedrukt, zit nu in zilver, aan beide kanten van je gezicht.
Ik maakte een afdruk direct van de schelp en drukte zilverklei daarin. Twee keer. Na het bakken brandt het bindmiddel volledig weg en smelten de zilverdeeltjes samen tot massief fijn zilver. De sterling zilveren haakjes gaan direct door elke schelp. Niets tussen het zilver en je huid dan het stuk zelf.
Fijn zilver vangt licht anders dan andere metalen. Het heeft een zachtheid, een warmte. Tegen huid gloeit het. De schelpen bestaan nog, precies zoals ik ze vond. Hun herinnering hangt nu aan je oren. Het zilver is 99,9% gerecycled. Er wordt niets nieuws gedolven. Er gaat niets verloren. Elk stuk draagt het EWN-keurteken en mijn meesterteken: het officiële keur van de Edelmetaal Waarborg Nederland. Echt. Gecertificeerd. Permanent.
